This information is offered for secondary school teachers looking to adopt a new text for the world religions classroom. The comments featured are intended neither as scholarly reviews of world religions texts nor as judgments on their quality. Rather, they aim at a consensus view based on the experience of secondary school classroom teachers reported to us. In some cases we may feature new texts that appear to have promise, though we are unaware of their current use in schools. The texts featured are far from exhaustive of the numerous good works available

Living Religions
Mary Pat Fisher
Prentice Hall
Mary Pat Fisher's text is probably the text most independent school teachers have adopted in the last decade when they have decided to change from an other text. It is well regarded as a useful tool in schools where students are studying world religions in the upper grades, and or in schools with very challenging curricula.

The World's Religions: Our Great Wisdom Traditions
Huston Smith
Smith's classic text is probably the most widely used world religions text in the secondary school world religions classroom. It is also available in an illustrated version. The text is readablej and lends itself better than many other texts to courses with great time constraints (like where you feel you need to cover five major traditions in eleven weeks?)

World Religions: A Voyage of Discovery
Jeffrey Brodd
St. Mary's Press
St. Mary's Press offered two versions of Brodd's text at one point which may be important information for those adopting a new text. One version was decidedly more directed at Roman Catholic schools, while the other aimed at a more sectarian classroom. The reading level is slightly easier than Mary Pat Fisher (above), and the text may therefore be more appropriate for schools where younger students are taking the course, or where reading levels vary.

Introduction to World Religions
Christopher Partridge (Ed.)
Fortress Press
We currently know of no one using this text, which is newer than the titles above, but it is noteworthy for both the richness in its text and its illustrations. Rather than being the work of a single authorwho frequently has greater expertise in some traditions than othersPartridge has gathered together a series of authors, each of whom writes in the area of his or her expertise.
